1. Jigsaw (Aronson, Blancy, Stephan, Sikes & Snapp 1978)
In this technique, group mates share information with each other.
- Students begin in their home team. Each home team member is given or researches information on one part of an overall topic.
- Students form expert teams with a small number of classmates (normally four or less) to study their part of the topic and prepare to teach it to their home teammates.
- Students return to their home teams and teach their group mates.
- Students take a quiz or work together on a task that involves all the different parts of the topic.
2. Jigsaw II (Slavin 1995)
The same as Jigsaw, except that all students receive all the information, rather than only the information relevant to their part of the topic. The expert teams function as before, but home team members are less dependent on each other because they have the information that their group mates are teaching them.
